Presenting the Achang

The Achang are one of the minorities officially recognized that lives in the Province of Yunnan, to the Southwest of China. They live in the Autonomous Prefecture of Dehong. An area of humid tropical forest, with abundant forests and seasonal rains.

His population belongs to 35.000 persons according to the census of the year 2.000.

There are well differentiated at least two human groups and it is possible that some more children, who are included under this denomination "Achang".
Called Achang or Hansa, who live in the County Lianhe.
Called Mengsa, Mengsashan or Chensa, who live in the Longchuan county.

The Achang that live in Husa are considered to be progeny of Chinese soldiers stationed in these grounds during the dynasty Ming. In fact during the fifties, when the process of ethnic identification was realized in China, they asked to be recognized like an independent ethnic entity, without success. Some authors affirm that some physical and cultural differences exist between the Husa and the rest of the Achang.

Between the small considered ethnic groups achang emphasize the called Xiandao, which they are named if the same "Chintau". His population belongs to little more than 100 persons. They live in two villages of the prefecture of Dehong, district Yingjiang, area of Jiachang. One is the village Xiandao in the region of Mangmian and other one the village Le'e of the region Manxiang.

The customs and religion of Chintau de Xiandao is similar to the Achang. The garment of the men is like the Jingbo, that of the women like the Dai.

Chintau de Le'e, is more mixed by the Han, and has received more their influence.

His language is a language different from the Achang and from other nearby languages. That's why, although considered officially Achang, remains hanging to determine to that people they belong. There is the one who thinks that there are a branch Achang, there is the one who thinks that there are an independent ethnic entity.
