Fair of March
From March 15 until lunar March 20. It is the most important holiday of the Bai. His origin goes back to the Kingdom of Nanzhao, when according to the legend the goddess Guanyin finished with a demon who ate the eyes of the people. It is celebrated in the Mount Diancang, on the West of Dali, although the whole region is with festive ambience. Throughout there are attended dances, theater, sports, equestrian.
Holiday of the Torches
On lunar June 24. It is a holiday much extended in the South of China. They hang calligraphies auspiciosas. They light torches and in the night they go out to the fields to be expelled to the insects, remembering the myth in which they expelled the plagues sent by the gods.
Dances:
The most popular dance between the Bai is the Dance of the Len, which originated in the epoch of the Kingdom Nanzhao.
Dance of the Stick and the Flower, or of the Whip of the Hero.
It is a dance very typical of the Bai, which give in a thin bamboo nine nails at intervals, and in them some coins, on having banged his/her/its body with the bamboo, like a tambourine, the clink of the coins produces a sound.
