Dokusho Villalba. - Buddhism History and Doctrine. Vol III - Zen. Kapok tree Editions. Madrid, 2009 The Zen Tradition (Chinese, Chan; Korean, Seon; Vietnamese, Thien; Japanese, Zen) is one of the most original and living forms of the Buddhism Mahâyâna. Revitalized by the genius of the Chinese idiosyncrasy, the tradition Buddhist Mahâyâna proceeding from India was reborn strongly in the Schools Chan of the VIth and VIIth centuries, reaching his golden age in the VIIIth and IXth centuries with the expansion of Five Houses. Introduced in Korea throughout the VIIth century, the school Seon would turn into the principal current Buddhist in the country from the IXth century up to the actuality, becoming the religion of the State for several centuries. The XIIth century is present at the foundation of the Zen Japanese of hand of two pioneers, the Japanese monks Myosan Eisai and Eihei Dôgen, who introduced respectively the lineages Rinzai (in Chinese Linji) and Sôtô (Caodong in Chinese) in Japan. At present, the Zen Buddhism is expanded extensively by Occident after the successive waves of oriental teachers settled down so much in the United States as in Europe and the Zen appearance of the first western generations of teachers, be already of the Japanese, Chinese, Korean or Vietnamese traditions. The present Volume, third and last of the series Buddhism: History and Doctrine (that closes the cycle begun with the Volume I, The origins of the Buddhism, and the Volume II, The Big Vehicle Mahâyâna), gathers the extensive history of the Zen tradition in China, Korea, Japan and Occident, providing to the reader the most finished compilation that has been published up to the date on the history of the Zen Buddhism in Spanish. |
