PRESENTING THE BULANG

The Bulang are one of the most ancient peoples of the South-west of the Province of Yunnan. Since they inhabit this mountainous region of the border but - birmana from before none of these countries existed. A few steep mountains, of humid forest and difficult life.

At present they are approximately 98.000 persons in China, and a few more dispersed for the nearby countries, especially Burma, through which they live for these frontier areas generally in grounds placed to more 1500 meters of altitude.

In China they are in:
Autonomous prefecture Dai de Xishuangbanna: District of Menghai (Counties of Bulangshan, Bada, Xiding, Qitu and Daluo) and District of Jinghong
District Lingcang: Counties of Shuangjiang, Yongde, Yunxian, Gengma and Zhengkai.
Simao's district: Counties of Langcang, Mojiang and Jingdong

They are autonamed themselves of different form as the area that they inhabit, and this way we have that:

Those who live in Xishuangbanna are auto-named "Bulang".
Those who live in Zhengkai and Jingdong, are called "Wu".
Those of Langcang and Wendong are called "Weng hong"
Those of Shuangjiang, Yunxian, Mojiang, are called "Awa".
While the Chinese and other nearby peoples were calling them Puman.

His language belongs to the family austronésica. I truncate mon-khemr, branch bulang or wa-deang.
There are two dialects. Called Aerwa and the Bulang. But since the population Bulang is much mixed by the Han, Dai and Wa, it is frequent that speak also some of these three languages.

Although the Chinese government thinks that the Bulang are the only people, considering his restrictive politics in the field of the ethnic identification, and bearing in mind the different denominations of the Bulang, the different dialects or languages that they speak, as well as the reality of that his culture has evolved of different form in the different regions that they inhabit, makes pertinent to itself the achievement of independent studies that clarify the ethnic identity of or of the peoples Bulang.
