Presenting the Dulong

The Dulong are one of the peoples least known about China. His scarce population lives dispersed in a few vales of difficult access crossed by the river Dulong.

The Dulong are one of the peoples most slowed down technologically in the south-west of China. His contacts with the exterior have been rather scarce. Until the years later to the revolution of 1949, scarcely some travelers and explorers had provided scarce news about them.

In spite of the slow increase of his population in the last 50 years, this one scarcely was reaching 7.428 persons, according to the census of 2000.

They live in the western limit of the province of Yunnan. In the section septendrional of The Prefecture Nujiang de los Lisu, in the called Autonomous County of Gongshan of the Gnu and Dulong. A territory of difficult access in the vale of the river Dulong, to which only the highways have come in the first years of the XXIst century.

Mountainous forests are a big part of his territory with abundant rains. Earths of few fertility that has turned them into one of the poorest peoples of China.

The language dulong belongs to the family tibeto-birmana.

It has two dialects, that of the river Dulong and that of the river Nujiang, which in fact can correspond to two different ethnic groups included under the denominative common one of Dulong
