In the rich oral literature transmitted between the Hezhe along the generations, the proverbs have an essential importance. In the Hezhe, the proverbs related to the hunting and the fishing, are those who have received minor influence from the Chinese.

On having shot, he listens to the sound of the wind, on having thrown the harpoon, looks at the wrinkles of the water.

The fisherman pleases of the night, the hunter gets up early.

The sturgeon likes the deep waters, the bear the calm caves.

There are hundreds of fish in the deep waters, but we will eat that of the superficial ones.

The one that has value is afraid neither of winds nor waves, the coward steps back before a trench.

The hunter is afraid neither of the wild animals, nor the fisherman waves you do not even annoy.

The one that is afraid of the tigers is not a good hunter; the one that is afraid of waves or winds is not a good fisherman.
