Chinese horoscope

Do we believe in the Horoscopes? Is our life ruled by the stars? Can the date of our birth determine the development of our character and personality? There are questions that we are carried out whenever we throw a glance to the horoscope. There are questions that, in fact, the humanity rises to herself for nearly five thousand years. Although our positive mentality prevents us from believing in excess in the horoscopes, on the other hand it seems curious to us that really the persons who belong to the same sign, share a series of features in his character.

One of the most interesting explanations on the relation between the life of the persons and the movements of the stars, I owe it to Joseph Campbell, and his magnificent work "The God's masks", on compared mythology. In her the author postulates that in the primitive societies huntresses, the man invented the dances that were imitating the movements of the animals, with the hope that, on having identified with his prey, the hunting they would be propitious.

With the origin of the agriculture the humanity discovers that the life is a continuous cycle, which is exemplified in the growth and death of his cultivation. The persons also are born and die in a continuous cycle, although extract remains. In many popular holidays this concept is still revealed. In the New Year the fires go out, the old thing is swept. One year dies so that the new one arises.

After the human societies to grow in complexity and after there found the first cities governed by kings priests, the systematical observation of the movements of the sun, the moon and five principal planets, he makes to think the religious ones that the life in the ground was answering to the same forces that were making move the celestial stars.

Since then, all the top cultures have not tried any more that to reflect this cosmic order in the ground. In the design of his cities, the construction of his temples, the development of his ritual life, and other aspects of his culture.

Possibly the origin of the zodiac is only to move to the area of the individual the same beginning applied to the society.

While we enjoy discovering the characteristics of our sign according to the Chinese, it is not of any more a reflection of the role that the animals to which twelve signs are assigned to them, have played in symbolic and intellectual life of the peoples of China.

At popular level in China they circulate several legends on the origin of the Zodiac. According to one of them, God summoned one day to all the animals. Many of them set out. The rat, crafty, asked to the cow it to take him to his loin, and this one gained access. When they were coming where God was the rat started giving jumps, and they all commented: "There the rat comes". That's why his sign is the first one of the zodiac. To others 11 that came his kindness rewarded allowing them to direct each one one year. That's why the Chinese horoscope consists, in 12 signs that represent animals, and that recur every 12 years. The animals not only govern the lunar years, the days and even the hours fall down under his influence.

And as the western ones we believe that the month of birth it determines the personality of every individual, the Chinese believe that each of these elements possesses a few special characteristics and they influence the character of the people. Also it influences the element to which it belongs. Five elements are: metal, water, wood, fire and ground, that combined with 12 animals give a cycle of 60 years. That is considered to be a vital cycle, which the yin and the yang influence also.

Everything Chinese knows clearly the signs of the zodiac, as well as the principal qualities associated with each one. In fact, when someone wants to know the age of another person he asks him of polite form: "Of what sign are you?". Many young people takes a small jade pendant with the sign to which they belong, and it is a quite common custom to do a stamp to him with the proper name and the form of the sign of the zodiac.
