The Kucong believe in the existence of a few spirits to which persons in charge for everything call "nei" what it spends in the nature and the society. From the hurricanes, to the good harvest or the illnesses. So that these "nei" do not hurt them they realize a series of rites and sacrifices, generally accompanied by gifts of chickens or gluttons, that they take as intermediaries to the priests specializing in the dealing with the gods, called pimo. There are many categories of these priests or pimos, according to the knowledge that they have of the "nei". They always come from the normal people, and in certain form it is considered that they have been chosen by the sky for his task. The Pimo use very much the divination, generally placing rice inside a bowl, which then they intersperse in the palm of his hand looking for him three times simultaneously that invoke the name of some "nei". His principal "nei" are those of the Sky, the Water, the Mountain, the Wind, and the Dragon. That of the Harvest and that of the Hunting. And those of the most common illnesses, since every illness is considered to be that is provoked by a "nei". In addition to the cult to these spirits, they venerate his ancestors, for whom they realize ceremonies especially in the New Year and other important holidays of every year (The Holiday of the Dragon, Holiday of the New Grain, Holiday of June). In every house there is a slat of bamboo established in memory of the ancestors, hung by the wall, who take with them when they change in one of his frequent migrations. When someone dies they leave the corpse along with the fire of one to several days while propitious day is chosen to bury him, offer him rice and a few toothpicks, and sacrifice a chicken. Then they realize the funeral dances and the pertinent singings and it is warned the relatives that they come from other villages, with chickens and pigs that sacrifice themselves before the corpse, but that only the elders will eat. They choose the place of burying him throwing an egg. If it breaks it is a good place to do the grave. The women do not accompany to the corpse. The graves are cleaned once a year, when there them sacrifices himself a pig that they all eat before the grave. The place where a male dies is not considered to be good, and they usually burn the houses and leave the place. |
