A wide field experience in the regions where better the tradition survives lahu, and an excellent academic base they have allowed to Du Shanshan to discover the extract itself of the society lahu: an egalitarianism of genre established in his tradition and his first myths, which penetrates in all the aspects of the life of the Lahu, defined by the saying that gives title to the book: "The toothpicks only work in pairs."

This book, published in the year 1995 owing to the World Conference of the Woman in Beijing, is provided with 35 color photographs. After a few brief notes on the ancient matriarchy of the Lahu it centers on the affectionate rituals of the young people Lahu and on the marriage between the Lahu. He emphasizes the affirmation of that the creative god of the lahu, Esha, was at first a feminine figure, masculinized when the society goes on from the matriarchy to the patriarchy.

On the language of the Lahu. It presents the principal aspects of his phonetics, grammar and vocabulary, with a small dictionary of approximately 2.000 words in two principal dialects Lahuxi and Lahuna, which do not show so many resemblances as the author gives to understand.

An important effort to condense in a book the varied popular literature of the Lahu. His works and literary genres are presented in a chronological, hypothetical order, which leads us from his first songs that reflect the primitive existence of a tribe, up to the big myths, legends and poems of big complexity. This book, for the largeness of his targets, and the inclusion of the literature of the Kucong in the same one, considered officially part of the same ones, is an interesting tool to approach also the literature kucong.

A simple introduction to the Lahu, which, nevertheless he narrates from the theories about his origin and the culture of the pumpkin, some aspects of his history and of his productive life. The basic aspects of his material existence and his spiritual life. Of his literature and art, and of his medicine and technology. Between his pages there are some references to the Kucong, officially considered to be a part of the Lahu.

It is a quite advanced study of the literature of the Lahu. Since most of the texts come in the romanización of the writing lahu, the already expert investigators can be his public, or the proper lahu.

This book presents a translation to the Chinese of some of the articles of Anthony Walker about the Lahu of the north of Thailand. The proper author, in the essay on the branches of the Lahu, already warns that it is necessary to have great investigation on the Lahu of Burma and of China, and that the differences between the branches are so notable that it is necessary to specify on that type of Lahu one alludes in a study.

It describes superficially the principal rebellions of the Lahu during the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries, to finish with a presentation of the economy and culture lahu of the actuality.
