Bei Dao. - Waves.

Personages who move in a suffocating world, in a web that seems to catch them without remedy. In a world in which the feelings have no capacity, and the relations between the persons are subordinated to the expediencies curriculares, of the revolutionary résumé, two young people of different pedigree commits the error of falling in love.

The action of this novel is blowing up by means of the story in the first person of five different personages; that, as if they should direct by a ceremonies teacher, know each other along the same one. The game of the different perspectives with which the reality is observed is taken by big mastery, the continuity of the history stays alive, with the wealth that it provides to contemplate the problems that appear from his different perspectives.

Bei Dao describes in this work a hard world, of beings to the limit, shut up in a the same way hard society, in whom beyond the political dogmas of the moment, or precisely taking advantage of these, the persons show his real nature, an atrocious nature illuminated occasionally by weak twinkles of tenderness. A nature presents at all times in the feminine protagonist, Xiao Lin, that tries to mark a separation between her and the whole world. The insistence with which the young man Zhao scratches and wears away the armor that protects the young woman, will finish with having pernicious consequences.
