The language Gai or dialect Gai, according to the authors, of Li de Hainan, is spoken by 24 % of the Li. In him three local speech differs according to the Chinese authors, who might be considered to be dialects in other countries. These dialects are mutually intelligible, but the cultural differences between those who speak each of the dialects are quite notable, what according to the experts, it stems more from the different received historical influences that to have had a different origin.
All of them are autonamed Gei, and the most abundant surnames between them are Wang (king) and (yellow) Huang.

Therefore according to the customs and the spoken dialects, the branch Gai de los Li, in turn it is possible to be said that it is provided with three branches:

1. Branch Tongzha: That he inhabits fundamentally in the district Baoting, county Tongzha, as well as the area to the west of the above mentioned county. They spread up to the south-west and northwest of Qiongzhong, and to the southeast of Dongfang and Changjiang. Are named themselves the same fenta or tshontshan.
Formerly the men were doing braids to themselves and were chattering the hair in a red or black cloth. In the top part of the body they were dressing a Chinese shirt without buttons and in the low part two cloth pieces. They live at home with form of boat made of vegetable fibres. Due to the influence of his Chinese neighbors, most of his customs and holidays have disappeared.

2. Branch Zhidui. They live on the south and to the east of Qiongzhong. In the Zhidui county.
They are almost completely acculturated. They all dress already like the Chinese, speak the Chinese up to the end that the young people already does not understand his language.
The women are not already tattooed, and the customs are similar to those of the nearby Chinese.

3. Branch Baocheng: They live to the west of Baoting, in the Chengxiang area.
They all understand Chinese, sing Chinese songs, the tattooes and other customs have disappeared completely.
