If you like traveling, you will like Shangrilá. A different book from trips, in which the protagonist, the author who offers you this information about Beijing, penetrates in some of the most remote regions of China. Before the discovery of the tourism in China, Macao was a dirty and boring city, to which the travelers only were coming pushed by the desire to play in his open casinos the whole night, or of a few euros to save themselves for his price difference with Hong Kong.
A constant plan of renewal and urban restoration, has turned in a few years this city into one of the most interesting to know during a trip to China. So although his monuments, only ones in China, do not turn out to be surprising for any western traveler, they support with all his vigor the timeless air of the constructions in stone (so scarce in Asia).
The streets of his center, with his genuine restoration that them supports with that one his only style, are the best exponent of the history of the city. Walking along them it is possible to comprise the life in this city, during more than 400 years in hands of the Portugueses.
His most important monuments, which we review next, will be an only one pretext for these walks in search of the aromas the past.
Front of the Church of San Pablo: Formerly it was the biggest Christian monument of Asia, today only the front stays.
Square of the Senate: in the center of the ancient city, it is the set that better reflects the Portuguese heredity in Macao.
I moderate of A Ma: with 600 years of history, it is the most ancient monument of Macao, devoted to the Goddess of the sea, as it corresponds to a seaworthy people, it is the one that keeps on concentrating still the faith of the Chinese population of Macao.
Maritime museum: Opposite to the Temple of A Ma. Very interesting, and with a very agreeable patio where to enjoy a good coffee.
Fortaleza of Bar: Not very far of the museum. Of the XVIIth century, on her the Inn of Santiago is constructed at present.
