The readership of this page already knows my interest in the ethnic minorities. In fact throughout the years Chinaviva has turned into the reference point in the relative thing to the cultures indigenous to China. Here only we are publishing, it deforms custom, some of the materials turned out from my investigations, with the target, only, to present an introduction to his life and cultures. "Shangrilá", my last book, is the result not only of a trip for the indigenous grounds in this hybrid area between the Chinese and Tibetan cultures, but also of a long reflection process on this trip, the indigenous cultures, and the relation between these indigenous cultures both with the Chinese culture and with our own culture.

To reflect on other, is simultaneously to reflect on ourselves. The passionless look with which we can observe distant cultures, can reveal to us that other is neither so distant nor so different.

I have always defended that the defense of the rights of the indigenous peoples and the promotion and knowledge of his cultures could focus from two aspects. The aspect merely altruistic, sufficient to justify any of our actions. And the egoistic approach, since in a more and more homogeneous society the indigenous peoples are the biggest bank of ideas of our planet.

I am sure that this book will cheer the reader to know up a little more on these forgotten peoples, and to contemplate its own existence from a different angle.
