Religion of the Shui

The Shui have a complex religious system that presents a world filled with spirits to them.

All the objects have his spirit, in all the activities or important events, like marriage, misfortunes, illnesses or death, can take control of the spirits.

It is for it that they ask for the enchantresses' help (more powerful), that they sing the suitable rites and sacrifice animals so that every activity could develop happily.

For them there are approximately 300 principal spirits, which split into three types: protective, kind and evil. To the spirits that you belong to the two first ones the suitable ceremonies must be realized so that they extend his charitable action on the people. To the third type only ceremonies are realized to expel them, since they are never going to be right in the people.

The Book of the Shui is very important for the religious ceremonies. It consists of a White Book for the good things, and a Black Book for the bad ones.

Neither the shamans nor the magicians or clairvoyants have left the production tasks, while they are developing these qualities that allow them to get in touch with the spirits, develop a common life to the rest of the population of the community.

His principal gods are:

The God of the Fields, on whom there depends the harvest and survival of the persons. His ceremonies are realized in the epoch of sowing and harvest.

The God of the Door, which protects the family.

The Goddess Lady, who protects the children.

The Shui believe that after the death the body decomposes but the soul can keep on turning into a bogey. It is necessary to realize the funerals adapted to avoid it. These funerals have an important festive component. While cattle sacrifices itself in honor of the spirit of the deceased, it is sung, is danced and operas are represented.
